Sis. Marie S. Smalls is the wife of Pastor Isiah Smalls, of the Friendship Baptist Church, Coosaw Island, Beaufort County, SC., Sis. Smalls has been a member of Friendship in excess of fifty-five years. Over the years, she has served in several ministries in the church, holding offices and membership as, President of the Missionary and Choir Ministries, Women’s Ministry, Choir Director, Building Fund Secretary, Youth Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School Coordinator, and Praise & Worship Team Leader. Her newest role, (due to the Covid 19 Pandemic) is “DJ First Lady”, where she plays music for every service.
Sis. Smalls is a graduate of Beaufort High School, and holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Administration from South Carolina States University, Orangeburg, SC. She is employed by Beaufort County Council where she’s held the position of Director of Human Resources for twenty-two (22) years and is currently the Director for the Board of Voter Registration and Elections, totaling over forty-one (41) years of service.
Sis. Smalls also holds a State of South Carolina and a National Professional Certification as a Voter Registration and Election Administrator. She served as President of the SC Association of Registration and Election Officials (2021-2023), and is currently a member of the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) Local Leadership Council. She is a life member of South Carolina State University National Alumni Chapter and a member of the St. Helena/Lady’s Island NAACP Chapter.
Sis. Marie and Pastor Smalls are childhood sweethearts and have been married for 43 years. They are the proud parents of four (4) adult children and twelve (12) blessed grandchildren.
